For teeth that have developed cavities or another type of minor decay, dental fillings are used to restore their appearance and function. Cavities, which refer to small holes or voids in a person’s teeth, are extremely common, and most people will experience at least one cavity at some point during their lifetime. While they are usually nothing to worry about, they can become more serious if they are left untreated. Over time, food particles and harmful oral bacteria can use a cavity to enter the inside of a tooth and cause serious damage or infections.
In many cases, this can force a patient to have to undergo a root canal procedure in order to save their tooth. For that reason, any patient who has developed a cavity is strongly advised to seek treatment as soon as possible.
The dental care experts at Oasis Family Dental are proud to offer tooth-colored fillings that restore teeth that have become damaged by cavities. Not only do our fillings function incredibly well, but they also look remarkably natural. Our tooth-colored fillings are comprised of a mixture of quartz and glass fillers that are housed inside of a resin medium. The substance that is used is flexible, yet amazingly strong, making the material resistant to fractures and breakages. Best of all, it will add to the tooth’s overall strength, leaving it more durable than ever before.
When providing a tooth-colored filling, we start by thoroughly cleaning out the tooth, removing any visible decay and taking out any existing filling material that is present. Once the tooth is free of any unwanted matter, we will very carefully apply the composite filling substance in order to seal off any openings or gaps that are present on the outer surface of the tooth. We will then harden the material using a curing light that is specifically designed for this purpose. Once the filling substance reaches the same consistency of a natural tooth, the structure will be polished and shaped to provide it with a desirable appearance. After treatment, the patient will be able to continue with their regular brushing and flossing practices as usual.
